Greece is a mountainous peninsula located on the eastern side of the Mediterranean Sea. Due to the many islands in the Aegean and the Ionian Sea, Greece has the longest coastline in Europe and the fifth-longest coastline globally. Greece is a small country. It hangs precariously at the southern end of Europe, where it has bridged east and west for five millennia. In antiquity, it was the pivot point around which commerce and ideas amalgamated into a civilization so unique that it still resonates with its influence today worldwide.
